Oftentimes excellent musicians show courage and approach projects or concerts that are unusual and less ordinary.

Church Music Director Dietrich Wagler, and Anja Bachmann dared to present the organ, queen of all instruments, together with saxophone. They had previously created a unique programme in 2001, in which compositions for organ and clarinet already sounded magnificent.
And now their current program shows a considerably broader range than their debut back then: It ranges from Baroque and Romantic to contemporary and Klezmer music – and we even get to hear the entire family of saxophones and clarinets.
Following their highly acclaimed premiere of this programme at a benefit for the reconstruction of the famous Silbermann Organ in Freiberg’s St. Petri Church, Dietrich Wagler and Anja Bachmann decided to perform more often, including at Bremen Cathedral.
Wagler, established organist and long standing Church Music Director at Freiberg Cathedral as well as President of Gottfried Silbermann Society, which stages the bi-annual International Organ Competition, enjoys an excellent reputation as a concert soloist at home and abroad.
After their first joint evening performing at Freiberg Cathedral in 2001 (which was also Dietrich Wagler’s farewell concert as Church Music Director in Freiberg), it was clear to both artists: This concert must be repeated. And they remain convinced until today.
Still, until both artists had created their next evening programme, there was time to dedicate valuable time to the creation of another unique project honouring the famous Romantic poet Novalis, who under his real name Friedrich Freiherr von Hardenberg lived and worked in Freiberg for a number of years.

Inspired by Novalis' aphorisms and supported by drummer Ralf "Franky" Grötzschel and director Andreas Greiner, both Bachmann and Wagler improvised musical motifs on the annual cycle of 12 months (written by Dietrich Wagler). The resulting CD "Novalis - Aphorisms and Improvisations" with texts by Dr. Sabine Schetelich has by now become a rarity and at least in Freiberg has almost sold out entirely.
Gottfried Silbermann’s incompatible Organ deserves to be placed into the centre of this Novalis project.
Indeed, all programmes for Organ, Saxophone, Clarinet, and Percussion are extremely diverse.
